Well, here's a true (I swear to... somebody, I'm an atheist) story about an event in the life of my French teacher, 62-year-old Roger LaRocque.
At 19, Roger emigrated to Nice, France, from Nova Scotia (where I am.) While there, Roger just missed the entry deadline for university. As he had an apartment there, he chose to stay a while. Out for a walk one night, he was assaulted by an Englishman who spoke poor French. He held what appeared to be a gun and demanded money. Roger (as he was and is strong) beat him up, and the attacker fell down to the ground, bleeding. Out of his hand fell a banana.
